Happy New Year! (just a bit late) I just had a customer stop by the shop, inquiring about moles & voles. Now is the time(when the snow has melted) that you’ll notice some holes in the ground near sheltered areas, and trails (toughs) in the grass. It’s VOLES!! They look like mice but have shorter, about 1 ½” long, tails. The best way to solve the problem is to trap them. Mouse poison doesn’t work and I’m not aware of any poison on the market to kill voles. Set the mouse trap and place it perpendicular to the trail, so the trip end is in the trail.
With any luck, they’ll get caught on the way back to their holes. Voles, do eat meat, so a small piece of pepperoni as bait might help. I don’t use any bait. If you don’t have any luck catching them, relocate the traps to other trails. After you’ve caught a couple, fill the holes in with soil. Check the holes in a couple of days, if there are new ones, put the traps back out until you catch all of them.
Good luck
God bless
